#WHYAKDPHI

Growing up as a kid, I always had lingering questions about my ethnicity and where I came from. Being adopted from an orphanage in China, answers to these questions were not so easy to come by.  As I started primary education, I began to recognize subtle differences between myself and the other kids, specifically characteristics pertaining to physical features (narrower eyes, thick straight hair, olive skin tone). I often received comments from other kids about these differences and often felt out of place. Graduating from a culturally diverse program (IB) in high school definitely aided me in taking a more firm stance on my ethnic background. Coming into college, I knew I wanted to continue my journey of growing professionally and personally. I joined aKDPhi to embrace my current identity, a female Asian-American woman with hopes of finding a community of like-minded individuals striving to reach their maximum potential.

“She was powerful, not because she wasn’t scared but because she went on so strongly, despite the fear.”
