Asian cultural awareness day

April 7th, 2021

Asian Cultural Awareness Day is a time of celebration. It is important to reflect on the traditions, culture, and history of Asian American and Pacific Islanders.

With today being Asian Cultural Awareness Day, we would like to showcase some of the Asian owned businesses in Tallahassee! Through their efforts, we can continue to embrace our culture through food. Through our efforts to support them, they can remain open during these difficult times.

Red Lantern Gala follows the Chinese tradition of remembrance and celebration following the new year. This year’s theme was Unity, so it seemed fitting that sisters #110 Sean Tordecillas and #116 Annie Le came together to support our fellow sister #119 Sally Zhu and the work she and our fellow AASU affiliate put into the hosting of this event. Our sisters enjoyed a night of music, dancing and of course laughs!

#111 Taylor “serendipity” Allen: a summer in china

Summer 2019

Determined to get more in touch with her Chinese roots, our sister, #111 Taylor Allen, embarked on one of the most meaningful journeys of her college career so far. Taylor spent her 2019 summer studying abroad in China and traveling through Asia in her free time. Among many experiences, some of her favorite included checking the Great Wall of China off of her bucket list, visiting Shanghai, and going to Hua Shan. While immersing herself into Chinese culture, learning Mandarin, and earning university credit at the same time, Taylor embodied our pillars of both Asian Awareness and Scholarship.

Meanwhile, Adrija performed a traditional Indian dance and revealed her struggles with abiding by conventional beauty standards growing up.

ECAASU: Introspection

February 8-9th, 2019

ECAASU is an annual conference with attendees from Asian American Student Unions and related organizations all across the East Coast. Its purpose is to host workshops addressing Asian American issues in society and provide a space for individuals to discuss how we balance our Asian identities.

This year, amongst the multiple attending sisters, we had the honor of having not one but TWO sisters on the Conference Team. #100 Queenie Zhang (Marketing & Outreach) and #108 Lisa Nguyen (Programming) played essential roles in the planning and execution of this large-scale event. It is their dedication to the Asian community in every aspect of their lives that makes us so proud of their accomplishments.
