It was Earth Day and what a better way to spend it than by cleaning up our community! A few of our sister teamed up with the brothers of Sigma Lambda Beta, Sigma Beta Rho, and Phi Iota Alpha to keep the Killearn Lakes clean! It was so much fun being able to give back to our community while also building relationships.
ROad Clean up

Our sisters were out working hard to keep Tallahassee litter-free and beautiful! They participated in a road clean-up and looked great doing so! Great job girls!
Relay for life

Our sisters were up bright and early in order to participate in Relay for Life. It was a sunny day for a shining cause! We sold masks and stickers and what better way to honor our philanthropy of Breast Cancer awareness than to raise money and support for cancer patients and research. Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support!

Our sisters took part in a road cleanup to keep our town of Tallahassee beautiful! Although we may be busy with other projects, we are never too busy to give back to our community in any way we can. Making sure to follow safety guidelines, our sisters cleaned as much trash as possible from a local road through Keep Tallahassee Beautiful (KTB)!

Our sisters joined together with the lovely ladies of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated for a virtual service event! This night was full of laughter and creating the most ‘boobiful’ bookmarks together to donate to the cancer patients at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. It was a great way to do a service to our community all while having fun doing it!
Fight with pink: bca game night w/ heal

For our 2nd event of BCA month, our sisters co-hosted an informative game night with one of the student organizations on our campus, Health Educated Asian Leaders (HEAL). This event featured a lovely guest speaker Janet Nguyen, MS, R.T., who gave us a presentation on breast cancer and ways to look out for it.
Afterwards, we tested everyone on their BCA knowledge with a super fun Kahoot! Thank you to our guest speaker and to everyone who came out to this event!

Get your PINK on! To start off Breast Cancer Awareness month this year, our amazing VPS #127 Trinity Nguyen and our BCA committee planned out weekly events to help raise awareness towards breast cancer!
After giving an informative presentation on breast cancer given by our VPS and sister #122 Zoe Damann, everyone joined together to do some relaxing yoga moves.

To kickstart the Fall semester, our sisters gathered together at a local park to pick up trash with Keep Tallahassee Beautiful (KTB)! Donning our masks, we gave back to our wonderful Tallahassee community by clearing out the majority of the trash. Our goal is to keep the planet green and staying safe while doing so! #MasksOn!
North florida veg fest

On this bright and sunny Saturday afternoon, a few of our sisters, #110 Sean Tordecillas, #115 Sage Kim and #119 Sally Zhu, volunteered at the annual North Florida Veg Fest. As volunteers, they helped local businesses and vendors by monitoring their tables, handing out samples, and teaching attendees the proper ways to recycle their trash. They even walked away with swag bags full of plant-based snacks and a book of recipes!
Founder’s week: Service event

In celebration of our Founder’s Week this February, our chapter hosted a clothing drive in honor of our pillar of service. We asked for donations of gently used clothing items, and we are happy to report that the participation and support from the FSU community were phenomenal- thank you to everyone! The clothes collected were donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend Tallahassee Foundation. The local chapter of an organization whose purpose is to help children realize their potential and build their futures.

That’s a wrap for our semester! As a part of our service pillar, we work hard to maintain the road we adopted here in Tallahassee. At least once per semester, we gather our garbage bags and gloves and host a morning road clean-up. It’s our duty to keep the planet clean & green!
Giving tuesday donation drive: Refuge house

In honor of Giving Tuesday, FSU aKDPhi held a donation drive on campus, from which we collected cleaning supplies, cosmetics, and household goods to donate. Sister #116 Annie Le delivered the items to Refuge House in Tallahassee, a domestic violence service providing help to victims of domestic violence and their families. Thank you to everybody for your kind donations to this cause!

As our final and largest event of the month in support of our philanthropy of Breast Cancer Awareness, the sisters of aKDPhi at FSU hosted a stroll, dance, and talent competition with BCA as our theme with all proceeds from the event being donated towards breast cancer research. (read more about our BCA philanthropy here.) This event had an amazing turnout of Greek organizations performing, as well as talented groups and individuals from various student organizations. To tie a fun-filled and meaningful philanthropic event together, we had a celebratory cake and some pizzas to aid in our fundraising efforts. Thank you to everybody who supported us this BCA month!

Breast cancer awareness fundraisers 2019

This month is all about our philanthropy. In an effort to donate as much money as possible towards breast cancer research, we organized several fundraisers throughout October, including a BCA stickers fundraiser, a paracord bracelet fundraiser, and a pink ribbon fundraiser. These fundraisers, along with our events, paved the way for us to not only go above and beyond our fundraising goal but to spread awareness of breast cancer and ways people penitentiary help.
Relay for life 2019
April 5th, 2019
Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event created by the American Cancer Society in which organizations referred to as '“teams” set up tents offering food and activities in exchange for donations. The event is complete with live music and a lighting of Luminaria to remember those lost, celebrate those who survived, and show those affected by cancer that we are the light in the darkness.
Our sisters take part by selling hot and yummy homemade mac-n-cheese (with optional bacon)! 🧀
